The Filmmakers


Sarmistha Maiti (born December 1979) is an Independent Filmmaker, Writer and also works as an Art Critic/ Curator. She has done graduation and post-graduation in Comparative Literature from Jadavpur University, Kolkata (1998-2003) and has done PG Diploma in Cinema (Editing Specialization) from Satyajit Ray Film & Television Institute (SRFTI), a premium film school in India (2007-10). She has an extensive experience of working as a journalist in two National Dailies - Hindustan Times and the Times of India. She is also a regular contributor as an art-critic to several national magazines on art like "Art & Deal", "Indian Contemporary Art Journal", "Art Etc" and is the Managing Editor of www.mattersofart.net (India’s first ezine on art). As a writer, she has two published books: “3 on a Bed – Contemporary Indian Novellas” co-written with Rajdeep Paul, published by Bunsen Books in 2013 and a book of poems “Forbidden” in 2004.



Rajdeep Paul (born September 1981) is an Independent Filmmaker and Novelist. He did his graduation in Computer Science and Engineering and worked for three years in Infosys Technologies Ltd as a Software Engineer. He then left his engineering career to pursue his dream of filmmaking and did a PG Diploma in Cinema with specialization in Screenplay and Direction from Satyajit Ray Film & Television Institute (SRFTI), Kolkata, a premium film school in India (2007-10). Two of his books have been published in 2013 : “3 on a Bed – Contemporary Indian Novellas” co-written with SarmisthaMaiti, published by Bunsen Books, Kolkata and epic fantasy novel “Davyaprithvi: Heaven on Earth” the first book in the Indus Valley series published by Aether Books, New Delhi.

Both of them have worked in several international documentaries produced by PBS, New York, Native Voices, London etc. They have been an integral part of award-winning and revolutionary documentaries like "Half the Sky" and "Bengali Detectives" and many more. The latest feather in their cap is the Special Mention to Directors' Award at the 61st National Indian Film Awards 2013 for their film "At the Crossroads Nondon Bagchi Life and Living"
